Mark your calendars: The Frist Art Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, recently announced several upcoming exhibitions for its 2027 season. One of its most anticipated is Splendor and Luxury: French Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is sending several famous era-appropriate antiques from its French decorative arts collection.
More than 90 works will be included, ranging from jewelry, furniture, ceramics, glass, metalwork, and works on paper. The artists represented include René Lalique, Pierre Legrain, Louis Majorelle, Alphonse Mucha, and Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann.
The exhibition will show the difference between Art Nouveau’s nature-inspired flowing lines and Art Deco’s more streamlined forms and geometric ornaments. Both styles shaped French decorative arts in the early 20th century. If you love these eras, plan your visit between October 1, 2027, and January 2, 2028.
Admission is free for Frist members and visitors 18 and under. Adult tickets are $20, while seniors, military guests with ID, college students with ID, and groups of 10 or more pay $16; the group rate requires advance reservations. EBT, SNAP, and WIC cardholders may bring up to four adults free with photo ID.
