An Expanded Bob Ross Museum Exhibit Will Include His Last-Ever TV Painting

Bob Ross’s “happy little trees” are getting the museum treatment they deserve in a newly expanded exhibition set to open in late 2025 or early 2026.

Bob Ross, the iconic TV painter known for his calm voice and cloud-filled landscapes, is the subject of a brand-new, large-scale museum exhibit in Indiana. The expanded exhibition is planned for late 2025 or early 2026 at the Minnetrista Museum & Gardens in Muncie, Indiana, where Ross filmed The Joy of Painting from 1983 to 1994.

This new showcase will go beyond the current Bob Ross Experience and display dozens of original paintings, many of which aired on his PBS show. One highlight: The Wilderness Way, the final canvas Ross completed for television before his death in 1995.

While Minnetrista already hosts a permanent exhibit dedicated to Ross—complete with his restored TV studio and retro 1980s living room—the new addition will feature a sprawling gallery space and a thematic presentation designed to highlight lesser-seen aspects of his legacy. For the first time, Ross’s art will be framed in a formal curatorial context, offering a deeper look at his evolution as an artist—not just a TV personality.

Minnetrista’s Bob Ross Experience is open year-round. Visitors can walk through the original filming studio, explore a recreated 1980s-style living room, and even sign up for painting classes taught by Certified Ross Instructors. The museum also displays rotating collections of Ross’s themed works, such as mountain scenes or seascapes, giving fans something new to discover with each visit.

Ross’s work has seen a cultural resurgence in recent years, with reruns of his show streaming on Twitch and merchandise popping up everywhere. But this upcoming museum expansion is the first time his body of work will be formally presented at this scale.
