In its Q2 2026 shareholder letter released August 5, Etsy said vintage sales had strong recent growth in the first half of 2026. The company specifically pointed to buyers seeking distinctive, hard-to-find secondhand pieces across several categories.
The common thread among all the recently sold items is that people can actually wear, use, or live with them. I’m breaking down the three most-shopped categories, according to the company, and why these kinds of vintage pieces may be resonating with shoppers right now.
Old Watches Are Worth a Second Look
A vintage watch is exactly the kind of thing that can sit unnoticed in a jewelry box for years. Then someone recognizes the name on the dial, checks the case, or looks at the movement and realizes it deserves a closer look.
That does not make every inherited watch valuable. But maker, movement, case material, condition, and original parts can all matter, which makes this a category where a little identification goes a long way.
If yours came through the family, document what you know before the story gets separated from the object.
Vintage Furniture Is Still Earning Its Floor Space
Furniture is a more telling category than it may seem. Buying an old cabinet or chair online takes considerably more commitment than adding a small collectible to your cart, yet Etsy still called furniture out as an area of vintage growth.
The draw is not simply that old furniture is “better.” A vintage piece might have an oddball size that fits the exact corner you have, hardware you would never find on a new dresser, or a wood tone that makes a room feel less straight-from-the-showroom.
Age alone still does not make a piece desirable. If you are trying to figure out whether an inherited table or dresser is actually worth something, an antique price guide with pictures or eBay sold listings can help you narrow down what deserves more research.
Home Decor Is Where the Hunt Gets Fun
This is the category with the widest net. Think pottery, lamps, mirrors, framed art, glassware, linens, trays, candlesticks, bookends, and all the strange little objects that somehow end up being the thing everyone asks about.
It is also the easiest of Etsy’s three standouts to shop without making a major commitment. One old lamp or piece of pottery can change the feel of a shelf or side table without requiring a furniture delivery or a collector-level budget.
That mix-and-match approach is part of why older pieces work so well in collected interiors. If you like grandmillennial style, you already know how vintage and antique pieces can sit alongside newer ones without turning the room into a period set.
For Sellers
The takeaway is not to start calling every old object “rare.” Etsy’s own wording is more useful: Buyers are turning to the marketplace for vintage pieces that feel distinctive and hard to find.
That makes good identification more important, not less. A generic old vase and a desirable vintage one can look equally charming in a photo, but maker, age, condition, and comparable sold prices are what tell you whether there is more to the story.
